PeteC Where does WonderWatt fit in with it
I guess we have a good idea of what functionality inverter manufacturers should expose and in which way, to allow the broadest range of integration scenarios.
As such, a subset of high level operations and creating some sort of Open API specification for it, that's the easy part.
The harder part is getting manufacturers actually onboard to join this alliance. As such I think Mercury really at the moment is just in its infancy - it's a movement to get device manufacturers onboard and see which ones are interested. It's a great first step.
I truly believe lack of open and published APIs for some device (inverter/EV charger) manufacturers, will eventually lead to people not buying those products.
APIs are key to unlocking smart integrations. And boost the ecosystem around these hardware products. It will take time for manufacturers to realise, even though it really is rather a no-brainer. Some will join, others may not, but will in the long run lose out.
PeteC Could it be amended to work with all Mercury compatible batteries?
Once a standard has been defined and manufacturers implemented, absolutely. But this feels a fair way off ATM.
We may well submit a request to join the Mercury effort.
