admin I'm sure this may have been discussed but will there be a monetary based charge option instead of timed . I've only been playing with charging and discharging batteries for a few days and I'm not great at this kind of thing but as far as I can work out you will have to go in every day and change the charge/ discharge slots depending on price change ? What most of us need I feel is an option to fill at lowest prices , sell at highest prices , I know some people are really tech savvy but those of us that aren't spend ages trying to configure all these things 😊

Can you tell us about it first, so I know how you're going to charge the battery under what circumstances... For instance, I would suspect per half hour depending on the price of the input at that time, charging at the lowest prices during the day and making sure there is enough charge in battery for the peak time. That means charging perhaps many times during the day to get the absolute lowest tariffs.

Basically, during your specified window here:

Wonder Watt will based on those settings determine and pre-select the cheapest number of half hour slots for the next day when they become available.

That will then look something like this - the reason they're greyed out is because the time is in the past:

Which means 4 separate charge slots would be sent to the inverter prior to the start time of each of those 4 contiguous blocks.

You can also easily select and deselect slots and Save your changes for scheduling.

Does that make sense?

TomKatt1993 Not currently, I guess it would be max percentage configured against the each Charge Window? Your target for 00:00-06:00 might be 80%, but for 11:00-15:30 100%?

I have scheduled 2 test sessions this evening and so far the first session completed successfully even though there was a inverter timeout error but the session time was set correctly and started and ended as configured

The second session was scheduled for a 10pm start and this is now running .

I have scheduled multiple slots overnight but I feel confident they will run ok if the battery is not fully charged

The main question for me is if I have consecutive time slots configured for instance 2am to 6am but the battery is fully charged at 4am ie to 100% is the remaining 2 hours removed, ie the configured charge period removed.

I have noticed recently with the GivEnergy system the battery does not start to discharge and provide power to the home until the configured charge times have expired

I am running a ASHP so this will keep pulling power from the grid until the battery charge period as expired instead of the battery providing the power even though it’s fully charged

I will report back how it performed overnight tomorrow

Here is my test for tonight, one thing I noticed was it hasn't populated the second window for tomorrows 22:00 - 00:00 window. I will change tomorrow to have a big windows from around 21:00 - 06:00

That's currently not the case, because the contiguous slots are condensed together and effectively form one big slot which is only evaluated at the start.

It's an interesting point though, but let's say after an hour your battery is 100%, would you want to drain it all the way then to say 5 or 6AM? I know it wouldn't get anywhere near all the way drained on background leccie ticking over, but still.

Or perhaps a better way to approach is, is to say, charge on Agile slots when the battery is less than x %? You might not need/want to charge at cheap nightly slots if you got 70% or more in the battery with good solar forecast coming up the next day for instance.

Happy to hear other people's thoughts on this too and how to best go about it.

The batteries “I have 2 x 9.5kw” charged to 100% mid way through the session but discharging does not happen until the configured charge period as expired or is deleted for instance I set the start and end times to 00:00

You can see below the applied charge slot, below, the discharge period was set to dynamic
but due to the good solar input today and the battery being full I have set this now to hold until the agile peak period

I just need to work out a automated way to charge at low rates - this product does that 👍and it allows multiple slots which was not available via the GivEnergy App for my AC system so that’s a result.

Wish list now is :
A: Discharge from the battery to meet the home demand without first having to edit / delete the current set charge period especially if prices are high
B: automate battery top up at cheap rates without my input
C: automate the battery discharge and charge period so it meets my day time usage but allows me to hold back 50% for peak

Another good suggestion @Robbie had, was for WW to always pick/charge slots that happen to be 0 or negative (plunge) prices. Regardless of your configured Agile charge window. We'll definitely add that.

A great idea about the topping up when the price plunges. We're paying 7p per kWh equivalent for gas so having the option for the battery to charge automatically if the electricity price drops below that could be useful.

Surely that would typically be around the 16:00-19:00 hour mark for which you wouldn't set up an Agile Octopus charge window anyway?

You can set up a regular export schedule for those peak hours in the Schedules section.

That is the case, at 16:15 your schedule for the next day should be preselected for the window and the number of slots you had configured for your Agile Octopus charge window(s).

I guess you could achieve this by selecting a few charge slots before the 16:00 peak period starts?

What I think is worth implementing is basically a charge condition based on SOC to be configurable before a window starts.

Ie. Charge only during Octo Agile if my battery is lower than 75%. And this can be configured on your Agile charge window. Each new contiguous block would check/validate and decide to action the schedule or not.

Does that make sense? Happy to hear other users' input on this too before we go 'charging in'! 😜
