FAQ
This Wonder Watt FAQ is a living document and will be updated as and when we need to. Feel free to check back every so often. Cheers!
Which inverters do you support?
We currently support Growatt and GivEnergy hybrid and AC-coupled inverters. We are working on a definite list that has been proven to work and are working closely with these brands on deeper integration.
A list with Growatt and GivEnergy models that are supported can be found in our article announcing multiple schedules here: https://www.wonderwatt.com/multiple-schedules-smart-charging-with-growatt-and-givenergy/
My inverter isn’t supported, what can I do?
We have other integrations that we will be adding in the near future, but are currently focusing on improving the service for our Growatt and GivEnergy users.
In the meantime, drop us a line here: (mailto:labs@wonderwatt.com) with the inverter you would like to see us support next.
Will you be charging a subscription fee?
Whilst our service has been free for 18 months or so, we will be switching to a subscription model from October 2024 onwards. More details here: https://www.wonderwatt.com/wonderwatt-introducing-our-subscription-model/
I have an East/West or North/South PV panel setup, how do I configure that?
Support for this is being worked on - it's next on our long priority list, but in the interim, the workaround is to estimate the equivalent PV peak output of your system if you had the panels on one side.
How do you calculate predicted solar output?
We use the settings you have provided like PV panel output peak, panel orientation, location etc. and then combine that with real-time weather forecasts including cloud cover, daylight hours, position and angle of the sun and run that through our own algorithm to come up with a rough estimate of projected solar yield for the next day.
What about Agile Octopus integration?
This is now available for all users.
See our Youtube video here explaining the feature: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7PbV9Sumyc
Why can I only select import slots on Agile Octopus? How can I set up exports?
The Agile Octo integration is limited to import only.
In terms of export, most users on agile have a fixed 15p/kWh export rate, and you can set up separate export schedules in the Schedules section.
I've set a 24-hour Agile charge window, but my slots aren't being auto populated
This usually happens when users end an Agile charge window at 23:30 or 00:00, for which the tomorrow slots are not available yet, hence a calculation/pre-population can not made.
We suggest users either break up the Agile charge windows or alternatively for one window use: use 00:00 - 23:00 - as usually the 23:00 - 00:00 slots are not the cheapest anyway. This is simply a side-effect of the Agile prices not being published for the hour before midnight until the next day.
Why did my charge slot or export slot not run?
The scheduler for those slots runs every 5 mins. This is to save unnecessary service calls and reduce database load. As such, if you set a slot less than 5 mins away, it could be that your slot is missed out. To rule this scenario out, if you set slots that need to be run asap, starting them 5-6 mins from now is recommended.
My activity log keeps saying: Failed to set inverter schedule
Apart from one-off Growatt backend intermittent issues, this seems to be common especially on the Growatt inverters where there are conflicting schedule windows already enabled, and they clash with the schedule Wonder Watt is trying to set up. Best to disable those and see how you go.
My activity log says: Error setting schedule: MethodNotAllowed
This sounds like your (GivEnergy) API key doesn't have the correct permissions configured for Wonder Watt to work. See the post in the forum here: https://community.wonderwatt.com/d/19-api-token/2
My activity log says: Error accessing data - check API key
This sounds like your (GivEnergy) API key doesn't have the correct permissions configured for Wonder Watt to work. See the post in the forum here: https://community.wonderwatt.com/d/19-api-token/2
Alternatively, your API token in the GivEnergy portal may have expired. You can generate a new one there, then update this in WW Settings, click Connect to make sure it works, then don't forget to click Save.
You can test your API key out first by following the instructions in this post: https://community.wonderwatt.com/d/541-home-page-not-working/8
When running an Export/Forced Discharge, I see an endtime with (adjusted) after it. What does that mean?
Based on target stop SOC, current SOC and max discharge, we set the export end time to be the expected/adjusted end and revert back to Eco-mode. More details here: https://community.wonderwatt.com/d/189-release-441-scheduled-export-fix
Is my data secure?
Your sensitive data like passwords and API keys are safely encrypted using asymmetric 2048-bit encryption. Traffic from the frontend web application to the backend is encrypted via SSL/TLS.
Do you have a Terms of Service or Privacy Policy?
Yes, you can find our Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy here.
Can I pause all automations easily?
Yes, you now can pause all automated schedules - by toggling the Pause/Unpause switch under the 'Pause Schedules' menu item.
My predicted solar output is always too high/low, how can I fix this?
We do have a correction multiplier in place for this, but we need to expose this setting on the front end. We will update this FAQ and announce this in the Announcements forum when it’s live.
Why do I need a Google account?
We did not want to create yet another custom email and password solution and went with an existing and secure authentication provider that most people have an account with to make everyone's lives easier.
Why would I use this, I have Home Assistant set up and it's working well for me
That's great news. The reality is though, it requires a fair amount of messing around with Python scripts, YAML configuration files and you need to run this on an always-on Raspberry Pi or low energy computer like an Intel NUC with Docker containers. Most people want something that is easy to manage without that extra hassle. That's our target audience.
