Slot reselction after version update.

Just a quick point. I've noticed that whenever I'm logged out due to there being a version upgrade, when I log back in then any slight alterations I've made to my charging schedule against what is selected by my charge windows is reversed. Tonight I had selected the 1am 13.23p window to replace the 2am one that WonderWatt had selected as my battery will be pretty low at 1am so I want to avoid using the 1:30 window from the grid, but Version v0.5.786 came along and changed it back to 2am. Obviously I have changed it back now.

Is there a way to make it hold the changes I've made when you perform a version upgrade? I appreciate the desire to go for the latest of equal charge windows in general, but sometimes the earlier one is better. I'm always happy to make the alteration myself but it would be nice if it would stick if I change it.

palaceben We’d like to explore that more. Is this before you saved? This sounds weird.

This is after you’ve saved? I guess it is while we have an update in progress and the state gets lost?

How could we reproduce this?

I've just set up for tonight/tomorrow, and made one change to the schedule set by WonderWatt:

Done in order to ensure the 4 cheapest are all completely used. Not sure if I'll stick with this, but if you can do a forced logoff similar to an update, then hopefully we'll see the change?

palaceben Right, so when you log off, and log back in, are you saying it has changed back?

palaceben I think you're right, that if you're in the middle of manipulating it prior to Saving, it would lose the state if we apply an update.

Whilst dev in prod is an absolute attraction for me, as you grow market share it becomes necessary to push updates at a time your server analytics show least customer use.

admin No. Logging off myself and logging on doesn't affect it, and I've no idea when you are applying an update. It is certainly not always an immediate thing. I'll make the change in the afternoon, and come back later on, if I have to log on again due to an update, I find my changes have been reversed. The change I made yesterday afternoon is holding still, but you are still on version v0.5.790.

Proper CI/CD pipeline with separate dev and prod envs including all infra.

And blue/green deployment in prod. Issue is SignalR connection terminating when slots are swapped.

You're absolutely correct though that server analytics has to play a part if there's any chance of user disruption of a kind.

No idea if there will be any updates overnight, but I've added a couple of slots towards the end of the night to hold my charge until the price increases dramatically.

palaceben This does happen once a day, at around 16:30. That’s the only time, because that’s when the new rates are just out.

I’d suggest to set, deselect/select after 16:35ish every day and you’ll be good.

admin Yeah, I know about the 4:30 process, and I usually check after that if I've got in early. My earlier postings were at 4:34, and I'm sure I've had the issue on days when I've done my changes well after 4:30. All settled again at the moment. I'll keep an eye on things (with an extra focus on 4:30...) and see what happens.

palaceben OK, we'll do some experimenting with it ourselves too. But definitely shouldn't be related to an app update.

I have been caught by the 4:30 recalculation and thinking that the save button should be disabled or simply replaced with a hold message until the recalculation has happened.
It's not obvious to new users otherwise.

And my extra slot has held. Maybe it was all just my imagination. {shrugs} All very strange ... I didn't just jump on here the first time I'd noticed, but if there is no issue, then all is good.

palaceben It wouldn't make sense for the app update to cause this tbh, because once you save your slots they are persisted to the database.

The only mechanism that could cause this is indeed the pre-population of slots after rates have been downloaded from Octopus and pushed in the DB, around 16:35 or thereabouts. And the pre-population only happens the once.
