I'm getting really frustrated with the amount of daily work I am having to do to get the system to behave. Giv5.0 Gen 1 inverter to 2 x Giv Bat 9.5 I think it is something to do with asking it to hold after charge. The effect is that it appears to accept a charge window - either automatically or manually (no errors) but it is actually ignorning it - just sits there at hold. On the Giv Portal it shows as Timed Charge enabled with an active slot and batt to 100% yet nothing. In the end yesterday when it did it I had to physically reboot the inverter as it would not accept a remote restart command. Then i reset the Inverter to default settings and off it goes. It is almost as if there is a bug in the inverter software locking it out. I have only recently started to use charge and HOLD as a feature so I think it is related to this. Maybe when there is already a hold in place and you then ask it to charge again for another x slots - maybe that is when it goes pear shaped. Driving me nuts - anyone else seeing this at all? opulant-comfortable

@"RB63"#p6129 Yes, I think I've seen something similar. I set a window with a hold option last night, for the first time since starting with wonderwatt. While the battery didn't discharge during the window, it didn't charge either, despite some charge slots being selected. I've got a solax inverter and battery

@"Pablo"#p6137 They're likely different causes, what slots didn't charge for you last night? So we can dig into this a bit more? Never mind, spotted it. For Solax, we need to ensure to put the mode back to self-use after hold. Fix being deployed in next 10 mins.

From what we can see in our diagnostics logs, we are setting the charge rate back to 2600, see below an example from 08:00-8:30 - which was also in an Agile charge window with Hold enabled. Where do I access the Giv Logs? I cannot see anywhere on the Giv Portal that shows me this info - only the 5 min status reports... sorry for being thick

Last night it has failed as well 22:30-00:00 charge and hold accepted but not actioned 00:00-05:30 charge and hols accepted and not actioned. In both cases the Inverter is idle, on hold at 6% charge. What I do see is that the hold command for the first period was sent to the Inverter 17 seconds AFTER the charge instruction for the start of the second period had been sent. But that does not explain why the Inverter did not action the first charge period successfully.

Further - in its current state - it is ignoring Quick Schedule charging - you can send the command and it accepts it but does nothing. I have GiVTCP running on HA but this has no automations set - it is normally purely used for monitoring. If I try to force charge from HA this also fails to action an actual state change to charge even though it shows as actioned. SO - I have gone back to the portal. The Discharge Rate was set at 0% (which logically it should be as the Inverter is commanded to HOLD). If I alter that manually to 100% - ie allow full discharge - then the Inverter starts to CHARGE as a period is active. SO - maybe HOLD means exactly that - dont CHARGE OR DISCHARGE. If that is the case the HOLD command needs to be revoked before any charge schedule is sent ??? Is that a clue?

@"RB63"#p6144 If you go to My Inverter, then select top right hand menu, the little cog with Remote Settings (or similar) and then at then when you scroll to the bottom, you should see logs there.

@"RB63"#p6156 Looks like there was an issue where the charge window hold overwrote the charge instruction 00:00-5:30. We've applied a fix for this scenario, which will be available in the next 10 mins.

I am going to try one thing. I have set up a second charge window from 15:30 to 16:00 WITHOUT hold on it. This is immediately prior to the normal 16:00 - 20:00 full export.
Just see if this alters the behaviour - the theory being that the full export is then coming after a non-hold charge period..

... and lo and behold that has worked..
So MAYBE there is something about going from HOLD straight to Full Discharge missing somewhere?
I'll run it like this for a few days and see if there are any inconsistencies.
I'll send over the Giv log when I can - currently it is timing out on requests for data.

One other thing to try would be to enable hold, and start the export say 5 mins after the end of the hold window, so say 16:05, to rule out any weird overlaps.

If that works, it looks like there may be an odd overlapping instruction/setting somewhere.

admin Ys but hold is hold for ever until you start an Export or put Eco mode on - you cannot define an end of hold without a trigger evert...

Other than the last two (most recent) entries. Maybe the reset of charge to 00:00 is releasing hold somehow?

Just thought I would check in on this thread as I too have been getting this “wont do anything after hold” issue. Although it does seem to be intermittent - and maybe even happens on the more critical days like today (or maybe that’s just when I notice it) On the most expensive day of the year I’ve woken up to an empty battery so now desperately set a manual charge. My only way out of the broken battery state is to set the discharge and import percentages out of 0% manually then the battery seems to respond.

Yup happened again tonight - no forced discharge. Seems I have to ENABLE eco mode to kick it off even though forced discharge at 100% is showing on the GIv portal.
I think this is a Giv bug - how do we best contact Giv on this?

following on from above the sequence seems to be - put it into and out of eco mode (doing this on the Giv Portal atm). The action of going into eco mode starts discharge at eco levels. Then coming out of Eco mode it goes to the full discharge rate as was set initially but ignored...

RB63 Sounds like a bug yeah. Good job narrowing it down.

I would initially report it on the GivEnergy forums - and perhaps the GivEnergy Owners Facebook group, there's quite a few Giv employees active on both.

Worth attaching the log in question, and highlighting that settings are all the same, but you need to toggle Eco on and back off for them to have effect.

Are you on the latest firmware? That's probably their first question. 😉

And I guess one thing to try would be to reproduce the issue via the Giv app if at all possible, perhaps update settings in the same order?

Well it seems it is probably a Gen 1 hybrid firmware problem but Giv consider the product end of life now so wont issue firmware updates (it is only 2 years old I have to say...)
It was also commented that 'maybe' on these Gen 1 inverters they can only Full Discharge if ECO is turned OFF so is there anything WW can do to sequence events to make sure that is the case (if you are not already doing this)

RB63 We are turning Eco off though for Giv discharges? When would you suggest we should send the Eco off instruction?

The only way I get it to work yesterday was to turn eco ON and then back OFF again after all your full discharge instructions had been sent. So maybe that is what needs trying with, perhaps, a time delay in-between of a minute or two?

With my gen 1 GE inverter, if I make any export changes via the web portal, the ECO setting can get changed. And vice versa. There seems to be a behind the scenes link between the two.

Well I have given up with HOLD on this Gen 1 setup - it is simply not either reliable or consistent.
I am now back to before - charging when it's cheap and ECO when not - then full discharge at evening peak.
This works 100% even though it is far from optimal economically.
When I remember I override manually on the Giv portal but at least it works of sorts when I dont.
