  • Car not charging on IOG extra slots

I set my first WW charge with IOG and my car didn't charge. My home battery charged, which was good. But why not car charge at the time set by Octopus?

stevek54 WW does not control car charging. With IOG, that is supposed to be done by Octopus when you have a compatible car or a compatible EV charger.

WW IOG integration only ensures your solar battery storage also gets topped up in those cheap adhoc slots that IOG gives you.

stevek54 that's a comms issue between your EV/charger and Octopus.

      Possibilities are:
      EV not accepting charge
      EV not waking up
EV not talking to octopus (4G)
Charger not talking to octopus (WiFi or 4G)

      Which EV/charger do you have?

MrMessy I have an MG ZS EV and a Zappi charger which Octopus uses to control the charge.
I tried again this evening and this time the car charged bu the home battery did not. But the batteries discharged into the car. I find the settings hard to follow. Which toggle to use and what is on or off. There doesn't seem to be a step by step user guide for newbies. I can't see that I'd be prepared to pay for WW unless I can fathom how it works in the next 10 days.
Thank you for your help Mr Messy.

admin Hi. I understand that Octopus controls the charge. On my first attempt although Octopus had scheduled a charge no charge was delivered, only a charge to my battery.I tried again this evening and this time the car charged bu the home battery did not. But the batteries discharged into the car. I find the settings hard to follow. Which toggle to use and what is on or off. There doesn't seem to be a step by step user guide for newbies. Hopefully you can help becuase in principle WW should be the answer to my prayers.

Is WW-IOG still a beta product that you need to request access to?

johalareewi Hi. Wasn’t aware of that if that is the case. I assumed since release of compatibility with SolaX and IOG it is live.

stevek54 What is your WattID please, so we can check your settings. Thanks!

stevek54 Your settings look fine, apart from the fact you don't need the custom charge schedule in the Schedules section for 23:30-5:30, as WW will automatically always add that when you have IOG enabled.

admin Why then does my battery not charge at the same time as my car charges during the extra IOG slots outside of 23:30 to 05:30?

stevek54 Yesterday you had an IOG slot at 20:30 to 21:00 and at 21:56 through to 5:30. However, at that point you still had "Hold" set, so it wasn't charging. You have since set it to charge, so it will from now on.

Additionally, when you get these charge schedules from Octopus earlier than 23:30 in the evening, your export instruction at 22:30-23:00 disrupts those IOG adhoc charges.

admin Okay. So my settings are such that the next time have an IOG ad hoc charge both my EV and home battery should charge and that I need to deactivate my Export Schedule. Is that correct?

stevek54 I would recommend to disable the export at that time yes.

I see, from other replies, it looks like you have this sorted but, just in case, I have this...

Also, make sure you have no schedules set in the Zappi or EV.
If your EV has trouble waking up with split schedules from octopus, check you have "plugin charge" set to on in the Zappi head unit.

Interesting, I've not had an issue with this. Maybe it depends on how the export schedules are configured.🤔

Are you saying the protocol is last instruction wins, rather than import being prioritised over export?

Yep, absolutely. Though perhaps we shouldn’t let exports run if there’s an active charge ongoing.

admin that would definitely work for me.
Maybe it would be worth checking with other IOG users first, as I'm sure there are others with similar export schedules.

admin I’ve deleted my evening export charges in the hope that this sorts it for me as think it has been causing a conflict when already exporting it continues to drain the battery to charge the car.
Hoping I’ve now got all the settings right but don’t need to charge the car today, so will see tomorrow.

MrMessy didn’t know about the ‘plug-in’ setting. Now turned on. Thank you.
