OIG schedule mystery

Yesterday evening my car wasn't plugged in, which means that the core Octopus Intelligent Go 6-hour low-rate period (23:30-05.30) should have prevailed.

For some mysterious reason, Wonder Watt decided to bring it forward to 21:30 (see first attached screenshot), with the result that my domestic battery started charging at the high Octopus rate (see second attached screenshot), which I didn't want, bearing in mind that my main initial reason for starting to use Wonder Watt was to link domestic battery charging with the dynamically assigned OIG low-rate schedules, if you see what I mean.

Any comments / suggestions? Thank you.

HerbEppel The mysterious reason is that we got an IOG charge slot through from Octopus...

And it looks like that was a slot from 21:30-23:30, which we then condense to the full 21:30-05:30 slot.

HerbEppel I've had this a couple of times. Turns out on both occasions it was MyEnergi (Zappi) doing site maintenance, so presumably some rogue signals being sent.

Both times were billed as cheap rate by Octopus, so no drama. It should show the correct rates on your Octopus web account (not mobile app) in a couple of days.

HerbEppel I missed the bit about car not being plugged in, but ultimately, it looks like we received a scheduled IOG slot from the Octopus API...

Check detailed Octopus bill details when you have them.

By the way, when I try and insert an emoji in a message here, I get a list of not particularly meaningful 'regional indicators' 🤔 Anyway, happy to copy & paste emojis for the time being 🙂

HerbEppel You just need to start typing.

The smiley button inserts a colon and if you then type sm - you get a list of smileys. You can search for them basically and it shows you them.

See screengrab below for how it shows up:

Equally, if you are typing a message, you can just type colon sign : and the box will pop up.

MrMessy Thanks for your reply and the reminder that one doesn't have to wait for the bill, i.e. detailed data are available in the Octopus account. Looks like during the additional hour (forgot to mention earlier that the start time had subsequently changed from 21:30 to 22;:30), during which my domestic battery was charged, the low rate was indeed applied, see screenshot 👍 And just to be clear: I wasn't complaining, i.e. any additional cheap-rate slots without having to plug in the car would be a bonus, although you appear to be suggesting that it was a fluke.

admin Thanks for you reply. It wasn't clear at the stage shown in the screenshot (which appears when I click the smiley button) that typing sm brings up a list, although the list is rather limited. Anyway, hardly a key issue. Sorry for going on about it 🙃

HerbEppel Correction: on closer inspection I realised that the screenshot I posted yesterday evening was from the 22nd. It turns out that during that mystery period when my car wasn't plugged in on the 23rd, I was in fact charged the high Octopus rate, see new screenshot. So hopefully it was just a fluke and won't happen again 🤞

HerbEppel Octopus won't have updated the dynamic slots yet, it typically takes 2-3 days. Try again late this evening or tomorrow morning.

Interesting to note that, unbeknownst to me, there was an additional low-rate period between 12:00 and 16:00, although I didn't need any import then.

HerbEppel out of interest, do you happen to know if there was any site maintenance for you IOG integrated device?

I have known it take upto 72 hours for a given slot to be reevaluated and then costed to the cheaper rate.... just me?

KristianS can't say I've necessarily paid that much attention but, Octopus can be a bit tardy dragging the info through at weekends and especially at a price change quarter.

KristianS Thanks, so why do they bother posting potentially misleading incorrect data, rather than waiting for the correct(ed) data? Anyway, not a big issue, as long as one is aware of it 🙂

HerbEppel Because the real data at the expensive 'rate' is what you use..... they then post process to understand from the system that the call for electricity was via your IOG allocated slots. This is done 'at some point in the future'. Thus the two values you see in any of the monitoring apps. It makes sense, because both values are useful and I guess from their side there is an audit trail happening under the covers.... but it does mean for the end user there is that nailbiting going on until you see the corrected value... or you don't!
